MRS JYNX - ATLANTA ep

Mrs Jynx: Atlanta EP (Complex Sound Sagacity : 2012)

Mrs Jynx, aka Hannah Davidson, is a consistent producer of lush, melodic electronica and has had her music released through Mike Paradinas' highly respected label, Planet Mu, including albums ‘The Standoffish Cat’ and ‘Shark Carousel’. Having played at a few Tronic events in the past, including a night on the same bill as fellow Planet Mu artist, Frog Pocket, Mrs Jynx has really become a firm favourite with those at Tronic.

Her latest six-track release, the 'Atlanta EP’, through Complex Sound Sagacity, continues the excellent form from her previous work with crystal clear production quality, crisp beats, and her trademark hypnotic melodies. The use of vocals and sampling on tracks such as ‘Something Which Was Everything’ and the excellent ‘CWishes’, which features vocalist IAm9, provide a nice additional element to the mix and they combine well with the flowing, floating, synth sounds.

‘Bedtime Stories’ has playful, warm synth lines, reminiscent of one of the finest ambient era artists Aphex, and others such as Bochum Welt, and Kettel. While the energetic, sublime sounds of ‘Kiss Behind The Ear’ bring to mind the soundscapes of Ulrich Schnauss. There is also a remix of this track by Oxynucid, included on the EP.

Each track, however, retains a distinctive, identifiable Mrs Jynx style. During track 'Economy Pelican' that rich sound then combines with cut up hip-hop sampling rhythms to great use showing the progressive side of this talented artist.

This EP is an impressive addition to a catalogue of great work by Mrs Jynx and well worth taking a listen.

Kvetch - Pop and Sizzle (Free 5 Track EP) - Review

Kvetch is one of those artists that could be classed as a rare breed. Never venturing into the limelight for too long, yet always turning out some interesting and classy glitchy minimal techno and electronica.

This is the side project of Sean Gillespie also known for his work in Integra TV. Kvetch is where Sean gets to explore his love and fascination with all things jagged, off beat and bleepy. To be honest it is a pretty good fascination, for I too am partial to a good bit of glitch music when the fancy takes.

This latest offering from Kvetch takes us deeper into the realms of Kvetch exploring new boundaries, while still reinforcing his roots. Keeping the dark broodyness one expects yet also infusing a more positive vibe gives this release a refreshing slant. It has a minimal techno, hints of electro and the all important glitch influences throughout.

You can download this FREE EP right now from the widget. Enjoy and please spread this far and wide.

TRONIC IS SIX

A creative space in Glasgow for electronic and visual artists in the beginning, Tronic soon turned into a monthly event.
Showcasing local talent alongside guests from further afield, the night firmly focused on Scottish electronica. Promoting, supporting and partying with like-minded folk, regularly running gigs for new artists and constantly reinventing the night’s sounds.
It has been a journey through some of Glasgow’s alternative venues. Developing a gathering of gig goers with a collective of bands, artists, producers and fantastic people those at Tronic have proudly got to know and have play for us.

Thiskk - Tabletopagrophobia LP - Review

It would seem that Glasgow is on the brink of an Electronic music revolution. The talent for bedroom producers is simply bursting at the seams. The latest artist to come onto the TRONIC radar is Thiskk with his "Tabletopagrophobia" LP.

This free to download LP is a weird and wonderful journey through a mixed up bag of electronic sounds. From ambient experimental noise opening the LP, right through to the familiar bleeps of minimal techno. However the main backbone of the LP takes its inspiration from the ambient dubstep sounds made famous through the likes of Burial and the glitched dubstep of Kode 9. This is a well produced and well thought out LP. One might think that such a collection of disperate genres would not work on the one album, however Thiskk has managed to weave a cohesive theme throughout keeping the listener intrigued all the way to the end. Hats off to this fine piece of work.

We loved this LP and look forward to much more from this fledgling artist. Download the full LP here.

Araya - Murakami's Kangaroo Zoo (Cowboy Bebop AMV)

This brilliant video created by a fan came to our attention recently, featuring Araya and his track from his 2008 album Bridge of hesitation. Araya (Keir MacCulloch) of course has played Tronic many times before and more recently in the popular up and coming band Capitals.

Mixing the song Murakami's Kangaroo Zoo with one of the best Anime films of all time Cowboy Bebop, this combination manages to create a beautiful music video. So good i have watched it about 10 times and just had to share it with all. Enjoy.
